Main activities
Umberto's activity is mainly focused in such technical fields as organic chemistry, food chemistry, industrial chemistry, industrial technologies, technologies concerning new materials and mechanics.
His job experience deals with preparing and prosecuting European, international and foreign patent applications, providing valuable advice to clients with regard to patent protection, carrying out prior art searches and providing technical opinions in the matter of patent validity and infringement, assisting clients in patent lawsuits. He is registered in the list of technical experts available to the judges of the Court of Milan for patent litigations.
Education
He graduated in Chemistry (1992) at the University of Naples. He is qualified to the profession of chemist since 1993. He is a qualified European patent attorney since 2000 and a qualified Italian patent attorney since 1998. He is also admitted to practise as design attorney before the OHIM since 2003. From September 2004 to June 2005 he attended successfully the course “Patent Litigation in Europe” jointly organized by CEIPI (Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle) and EPI (Institute of Professional Representatives).
Professional experience
He works for Botti & Ferrari since 2000. Previously, he worked as a chemical researcher for the National Research Council from 1994 to 1996 within the project entitled “Biotechnologies and Bioinstrumentation”.He also worked in the patent firm Jacobacci & Perani from 1996 to 2000. In 2001 he did a stage period before the firm Seed Intellectual Property Law Group in Seattle USA dealing mainly with the prosecution in examination of US patent applications. In 2007 he joined as a member of Eurattorneys EEIG in Munich, Germany.
